We’re excited to share Lachlan’s latest review from Passion for Sound, where he explores the impact of the Harmony µDDC and describes it as “like upgrading your DAC.” Drawing a parallel to a secret ingredient in fine cooking, Lachlan suggests the µDDC is the subtle but powerful addition that elevates an already great audio system.
In the review, Lachlan explains that a DDC (Digital-to-Digital Converter) doesn’t alter the digital data but improves how it’s delivered by reducing noise, jitter, and phase distortion. The Harmony µDDC achieves this with precision reclocking and galvanic isolation, resulting in clearer, smoother, and more enjoyable sound, even when used with high-end DACs like our Harmony DAC.
Unlike typical USB-only DDCs, the µDDC supports multiple input types, USB, AES, coaxial, and I2S and outputs via I2S only. This makes it ideal for users with multiple sources but a single DAC. Lachlan appreciated this flexibility, especially for simplifying system configurations and improving signal purity.
He also praised the µDDC’s compact form factor, while noting that its lightweight design may benefit from cable support when using multiple inputs. In testing, the µDDC delivered sonic improvements with both the full-size Harmony DAC and the more compact µDAC. Pairing it with a high-quality linear power supply brought even more spaciousness and refinement.
Overall, Lachlan found the improvements subtle but unmistakable, smoother, more relaxed sound without sacrificing detail or resolution. For systems with I2S-compatible DACs, the µDDC offers a meaningful performance boost and is a compelling addition to any serious audio setup.
A big thank you to Lachlan for his thoughtful and thorough review, we’re honored to be featured on Passion for Sound!
