    Great table DAC/Headphone Amp

It is just WoW. It has that Laiv R2R sound. I had the uDAC the went to the Harmony. no you my say you should have just got an headphone amp. But the Verse is more. The selections of over sampling makes a difference. The amplification on this powers all my over and in the ear phones just fine. I do have the uDDC with the Verse. It makes a difference. But it does sound fine without it. You could almost hook a battery pack and make it a portable. It is so nice to have your main unit right next to you and use your hands instead of the remote. It can be a very personal piece of kit. And it sounds first rate.

LAIV Crescendo works as advertised and reviewed.

This DAC has singlehandedly upgraded my red book cd collection to new heights of sonic bliss. Although this does not apply to the few horribly mastered turds in my collection.

Thank you Frank! Really glad the Crescendo is breathing new life into your CD collection. As for those few horribly mastered ones, well, some things are beyond even R2R magic! Enjoy the music!

    A musical beauty!

A few weeks ago, I finally pulled the trigger on the LAiV Crescendo Verse as a DAC and headphone amp for my ZMF Atrium Open. I’d been going back and forth between this and the Luxsin X8/9, but since the Atrium already leans toward the softer, warmer side, I thought the slightly more analytical Verse would balance it nicely.

The Luxsin probably would have been great too, but honestly, I wasn’t in the mood for tweaking and fine-tuning. And design matters to me—I love how clean and minimalist the Verse looks. Aside from my wireless DALI IO-12, the Atrium is basically the only headphone I use, and I just want to sit back and enjoy the music—mainly classical and jazz. The Atrium is super easy to drive, naturally balanced, and doesn’t need any EQ—I’ve never even touched it.

The VERSE delivers an almost analog, highly detailed musical presentation. The treble, especially with violin music, never sounds harsh. The bass is full and controlled, while vocals come across as rich, emotional, and engaging. The stereo image feels wide and spacious, with excellent instrument placement.

The build quality is outstanding, and despite its compact size, the VERSE offers an extensive range of connections and features: DAC, preamplifier, and headphone amplifier, all in one elegant device.

The discrete Class A circuitry provides refinement and delivers a surprising amount of power, especially through the balanced Pentaconn (4.4 mm) output.

I’m using the Verse purely as a headphone amp, and together with the Atrium, it’s just magic. The Atrium stays lush and immersive, while the Verse keeps things from becoming too thick or heavy. You get warmth and emotion on one side, precision and control on the other, and it all just clicks. Nothing overpowers the other—it simply feels right.

As far as I can tell, the LAiV Crescendo Verse has a solid power supply, but I want to get the most out of it and plan to pick up the LAiV Crescendo BEAT LPS when it launches in a few weeks.

Thank you Jan for such a detailed and thoughtful review! It is wonderful to hear how well the Crescendo VERSE pairs with your ZMF Atrium Open for classical and jazz. That combination of the Atrium's lush warmth with the VERSE's precision and clarity sounds like a perfect match. We are glad the balanced Pentaconn output is delivering the power and refinement your Atrium deserves. The Crescendo BEAT is coming soon and we think it will take your setup to the next level. Enjoy the music!
