Reviews
My main goal was to improve soundstage depth, tridimensionality, and achieve a more holographic presentation. Over time, I have carefully built my system around that objective, selecting every component with the intention of achieving the highest level of musicality, realism, and refinement I could. My goal was to create a presentation with a black background, clear and floating vocals, precise imaging, and a soundstage that extends beyond the speakers and draws you into the music.
After spending some time with the Harmony uDAC, I can honestly say I found exactly what I was looking for from a DAC. It opened up the soundstage, added depth, improved imaging, and made the entire presentation feel more immersive and realistic. Everything flows with a greater sense of ease and naturalness, but what impressed me the most is how naturally it became part of the system I had been building over time. Rather than changing its character, it complemented and elevated the qualities I had been pursuing all along. It brought exactly the level of refinement I had been working toward, complementing the character and philosophy of the system I had carefully built over time. In the end, it truly put the finishing touch on my system.
I have had the uDDC and uDAC for a few weeks now. I have them in my headphone system (into Pass Labs HPA1). Whether the source is CD Transport or Streamer: The sound and detail is incredible, exceeded my expectations. The build quality is very good and they are aesthetically beautiful. The presentation/packaging is exceptional. I am more than satisfied with these units.
I had taken about a 17-year hiatus from the audio world and returned to leaps and bounds forward with technology. I took a solid 4 months to read and research for my new investment(s) into my updating the electronics. The Laiv micro harmony DAC failed to go away. No matter how much red team I tried to play, I could not find fault in any of its reviews. I took the leap and crossed my fingers for synergy with my other equipment ordered. Another thing that I found was a pretty drastic change, was auditioning of equipment days are definitely falling away to the new direct to consumer ordering out there. Pros and Cons here obviously. But Laiv does a great and job at the return time to get refund should you find their products not what you were looking for. Though, I imagine after my testing and breaking in, that it would be extremely difficult to find any fault here whatsoever. Break in time is real. I forgot how much time it would actually take despite reading and knowing what to expect I grew anxious. To the point I found myself disappointed early on. It had been so long since the last time I had done this, I found it hard to believe that the sound I was listening to would change so drastically that I would somehow become magically encumbered. But then it happened. Like an enchantment. I finally had given up on the daily check and just let the music run for about 2 weeks without any actual listening. I woke up on a Saturday morning, returned to my listening room, put on my critical listening tracks, turned up the volume and the magic blanket laid all over me. Chills straight away. The music took me away like I remembered. All the layers had unfolded, opened, climbed, enveloped, and embraced me. The smile on my face has not left since. Build quality is equal in physicality to the audio quality. Outstanding and impressive. You can close your eyes and order this one and easily not look back.
