Reviews
Purchased this DDC to replace my much cheaper SMSL PO100 Pro in my audio chain that I've used for years, and wow did it made a big jump in performance! Cannot be understated how much more definition, micro-details, and texture I'm getting out of everything, especially the much tighter bass response. The background is also much darker and everything sounds so clean, without sacrificing their signature R2R sound. This is a keeper for years to come! For my setup, I have it currently plugged into my uDAC via I2S (using Ricable's MKII HDMI), which is plugged into my WiiM Ultra.
This little box makes the Harmony Micro DAC sound even better. There is a very noticeable difference in clarity of the music. As if a veil had been lifted. It also did two things for my PS Audio StellarGold DAC. It too gained in sonic quality. Also this DAC has a minor problem with displaying the digital information when using an I2s input. It appears to not display the metadata. It works sonically and very well. But with the signal first put through the Micro DDC it does and add to that it plays MQA CDs at 88.2/24. The Saber 9038 chip will not support MQA. Many PS Audio StellarGold owners should know the world of good this device will give them.
Both of my Micro devices from Laiv Audio are so well made. The design is great. The materials are first rate The screens and indicators and display screens are functional and usable. If this were the choose to cut back, so be it. You hear music with your ears not your eyes. DAC and DDC combined its self well to my EverSolo DMP 10, the CD player SMSL VMV T2, the headphone amp Buson Soloist Voyager Max. And my headphones like my Focal Utopia. The only other DAC I may want is Laiv’s full size Harmony DAC.
Below is a picture of the screen of my StellarGold to prove my claim of the fix for I2s metadata problem.
Even though they are so many great reviews about this DDC I was pretty skeptical, but I ordered one anyway and hope for the best.
The first thing I noticed was the improvement in the bass. It had More output, but at the same time was really good. Not bloated. Really tight.
The other part was hearing more detail in the Miss and the Highs.
The only thing missing now is a LAIV steamer! :)
One more thing there DDC One more thing that did was make my CD sound better. Using the coaxial output to the DDC really improve the sound of the Oppo.
