HiFi-Advice Names the Harmony DAC 2 Highly Recommended and an HFA Favorite

A sincere thank you to Christiaan Punter of HiFi-Advice for his review of the Harmony DAC 2. Christiaan reviewed our very first product, the original Harmony DAC, almost exactly two years ago, and it has carried his HFA Favorite badge ever since. Few reviewers are better placed to judge whether its successor moves the story forward, and few are as careful: he compared the two DACs side by side in two very different systems, swapping cables halfway through to be sure of what he heard.

His conclusion is one we will treasure. Christiaan finds the Harmony DAC 2 "even more impressive than its predecessor," and on its own, with its internal clock, calls it "the reference at its price point, and quite a bit beyond." He heard it as crisper, more controlled and more immediate than the original, loved the new colour display with its choice of a detailed or simplified interface, and found the new 10MHz external clock input made a difference that was "immediately audible, and not subtle at all." Paired with an external clock, he writes, it can compete with DACs at twice its cost. The verdict: Highly Recommended, and an HFA Favorite.

Christiaan was also candid that the DAC 2 keeps the original's sound rather than reinventing it, so the step up in sound alone is a refinement rather than a transformation. That was our intention: keep the discrete R2R heart that made the Harmony DAC loved, and build on it with new features. For owners of the original, our upgrade kit brings that path within reach.

Once again, thank you Christiaan and the HFA team for the support and for sharing your listening impressions with the community.
