There's a moment in every honest audio review where the reviewer stops talking about specs and starts talking about themselves. That moment came for Srboljub from iiWi Reviews about halfway through his 19-minute breakdown of the LAiV Crescendo Verse, when he quietly mentioned he'd be swapping out his personal desktop unit for one.
That says a lot.
Srboljub runs a 57,000-subscriber channel dedicated to serious, no-fluff audio reviews. He tested the Verse against some well-regarded competition in the sub-$1,000 space and walked away calling it his new favourite of the bunch -- praising what he described as a combination of genuine high resolution and tonal naturalness that he hadn't heard together at this price point before.
One thing we especially appreciated: he took time to explain the difference between true resolution and mere sharpness. Sharp and edgy can sound impressive at first, but it's not the same thing as actually resolving detail. The Verse, he noted, does the real thing.
He also spent good time with the NOS and oversampling modes, landing on lower oversampling settings as his personal preference for the most lifelike presentation -- though he was clear that NOS has its own warmth and appeal depending on what you're after.
His conclusion: "The new one to beat under $1,000 US."
Big thanks to Srboljub for the thorough listen and the kind words. Head over to the full review to hear his complete thoughts, comparisons, and how the Verse performed across his headphone and speaker setups.
