A big thank you to James Fiorucci and the team at ecoustics for spending several weeks with the Crescendo Verse and giving it the kind of thorough, methodical treatment their readers have come to expect. ecoustics is one of the longest-running consumer electronics publications online, and when they commit to a review this detailed, the audiophile community pays attention.

James tested the Verse across a wide range of headphones and source material, from streaming to high-resolution files, evaluating it as both a standalone unit and as a DAC feeding external amplification. What came through clearly in his assessment is that the Verse's R2R implementation strikes a balance that is harder to achieve than it looks: natural and cohesive without tipping into excessive warmth. He highlighted the midrange as a particular strength, noting that vocals carry a sense of scale and focus that draws you in without feeling forced. The imaging and soundstage earned praise too, with complex recordings retaining their structure and separation rather than collapsing into each other.

On the build side, James called out the machined aluminium chassis, tempered glass display, and compact footprint as standout qualities for a unit at this price. The Verse is designed to anchor a serious desktop system without taking over your desk, and that clearly resonated with him.

In the spirit of honest feedback, James noted that the internal headphone amplifier runs out of headroom with very demanding planar headphones, and that the menu interface could be more intuitive. Both are fair observations. The Verse is built to handle the vast majority of headphones with ease, and for those who want to push further, the DAC section pairs beautifully with external amplification. On the menu side, we hear you, and the included remote control does help bridge the gap.
